Book Worm

The day my mom took me to see The Lord of the Rings was the most wonderful time for me, because that is when I really started to really love to read. When I have a hard day at school, it really helps me to relax when I pick up a good book and lie down on my bed and read. I like reading fictional and fantasy novels the best, because they are the most relaxing; and the non- fictional make me feel even more stressed. The fantasy novels work great, because if you want to lose yourself they are great for that. In fantasy novels, you go on amazing adventures, like whisking you off to a far away land; where you might find your prince charming, or you end up on a perilous quest to rescue your best friends sister from the evil Lord Voldemort, or saving a magical realm from an evil Ice Witch and much more. Reading fantasy novels make me feel like I’m apart of the story and not just a statistic.

I have read many books such as; The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Harry Potter, The Host, and The Chronicles of Narnia, all of these I read after I started to really enjoy reading. My daughter really loves to read also, and right now she is reading my Twilight saga, and she is almost done with the last book of the saga and loves it. She loves to be read to by me and my mom. The books we read to her were The Harry Potter series, The Eragon inheritance cycle and the Host. I’m on my second round of reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I’m right now reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and I just read about Frodo getting stabbed on Weathertop from a Ring Wraith, because he had put on the one ring to escape him.

I can’t wait to see what happens to Frodo by the end of the book. I kind of hope he makes it to Rivendale, the home of Elrond and they can heal him.

I have never read The Lord of the Rings. When I have a hard day I usually go and exercise. I do this to release stress and clear my mind. I think you do the same thing with reading. I think reading takes you away so you no longer have to deal with it and get your mind away from it. I think when you read it and you focus on how a story ends you become motivated by the people in the book. After your done reading you can’t wait to start over and try the problem again because someone else did.

I first started to really read for the fun of it when my mom and dad decided to get a divorce. Reading for me was a way to go somewhere else where I didnt have to think about what was going on in the real world. After awhile I still read but not as much as I used to during the divorce. I didn't really start to read a lot again until my younger sister was diagnosed with cancer. Reading is really a way for me to not think about the real world for a little while.

Thats exactly how i feel when i read, it's like it takes me away from the world out side, and puts me in the story. I also feel like im the one having the adventures, and giong on the quests.

I am glad you found something in your life where you can juust lay back and relax. I am one of the people out there who have yet to find something like that for myself. Even though I am a really bad reader and the chances of me ever picking a book up to read it are very rare, your story i read has inspired me to go ahead and try it again. Trying it again might work because i am now a little bit older and maybe my intrest has changed when it comes to stuff like reading. I can't wait to see.

I'm really interested in this idea of reading as escapism. I wonder about how that type of reading affects how we regard reading that is required for class. Since many of us--or probably all of us, to some extent--find enjoyment in some kinds of reading, we might find the reading we HAVE to do as less enjoyable and thus harder to do than other types of homework. For instance, few of us, I would guess, perform mathematical equations to escape into another world. Thus, like it or not, math homework isn't compared to a type of math we'd RATHER be doing. Hmmm. I'm going to think about that one . . .

BTaz, since you have seen the movie, aren't you already aware of Frodo's fate?

yea i know his fate but reading it again i'm just excited it's almost like reading them for the first time and i just can't wait to find out what happens.
